This August, free concerts at Memorial Park and One Colorado overlap with Dine LA Restaurant Week in Old Pasadena. The three schedules share a two-week stretch beginning August 14.
Why the Bandshell Went Quiet in 2017
From 2003 through 2017, free concerts at Memorial Park's restored WPA-era bandshell drew more than 75,000 people every summer, turning a park that had been sitting underused into one of the city's real gathering spots. Then, in late 2017, the nonprofit running the program decided it could no longer sustain the full 50-concert Levitt season and pulled out of the national Levitt network entirely. The bandshell went dark.
It came back this July as the Levitt VIBE Pasadena Music Series, and the timing isn't incidental. City messaging around the relaunch ties it directly to the 2025 Eaton Fire, framing the return of free concerts as a way to offer shared experience and connection during a period when Northwest Pasadena in particular is still working through recovery. The city and the Pasadena Recreation and Parks Foundation are involved in bringing the series back this year.
Three Calendars, One Two-Week Window

Sunset Sessions and Dine LA end on the exact same day, August 28. Levitt VIBE runs two weeks longer, closing September 12. For the two weeks between August 14 and August 28, all three are live at once inside the same 22-block historic district. Outside that window, you're choosing between two of the three. Inside it, for fourteen days, you're not choosing at all.
What's Actually Playing at Memorial Park This Month
Levitt VIBE isn't a vague "live music all summer" promise. It's ten dated Saturday shows with a locked lineup. The listed August and September dates are:
- August 8: Jessica Fichot, Melo Gia, and Ara Dabandjian
- August 15: The Lao Tizer Band, a Downbeat "Jazz Group of the Year" nominee, with local openers Big Mike Hart and Aretha Scruggs
- August 22: Chris Pierce and Jade Hendrix
- August 29: John August, with a surprise guest
- September 5: Salsa ensemble La Verdad, the penultimate show of the season
- September 12: Season finale featuring Troop, the R&B group with Pasadena roots, and Jon B
Earlier in the run, August 1 brought an all-soul, all-women bill with Leah Ashton, Niki Crawford, Lauren Anderson, and Miya King. That's the pattern here. Every Saturday is a different genre and a different draw, which means the calendar rewards showing up more than once rather than catching "the one good week."
Where Dine LA Lands When You Walk Out of the Park
Old Pasadena has roughly 130 restaurants, cafes, and entertainment venues packed into its 22 historic blocks. Dine LA doesn't touch all of them. The winter 2026 edition, which ran January 23 through February 6, saw fourteen Old Pasadena restaurants sign on, three of them carrying Michelin recognition: Agnes Restaurant & Cheesery on Green Street, Fishwives on Fair Oaks Avenue, and Perle on Union Street. Last summer's edition drew sixteen.
Do the math on that and you get something worth knowing before you book: only about one restaurant in ten in Old Pasadena opts into Dine LA. That's not a knock on the other 90 percent. It means the restaurants that do sign up are making a specific bet that the extra foot traffic and citywide exposure are worth the discounted prix-fixe menu, which for this edition starts at $15 for lunch or dinner across the broader Los Angeles event. The list for this particular August 14–28 window will post closer to the date, but the pattern holds every cycle: Old Pasadena punches well above its size for Michelin-recognized participation, and the venues that show up tend to be the ones already fighting for a seat at the top of the district's reputation.

How the Programs Connect
The Levitt VIBE relaunch is presented by the city's Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department and the Pasadena Recreation and Parks Foundation, and produced in partnership with the Old Pasadena Management District. The city announcement encourages guests to bring a blanket, enjoy food available for purchase, and explore restaurants, shops, and businesses throughout Old Pasadena before or after each concert.
Sunset Sessions is a free, Javier's-hosted series inside the One Colorado Courtyard, a space designed in the tradition of European town squares as one of the district's public gathering spots. The concert series and Dine LA offer events and dining options in Old Pasadena during overlapping dates.
After September 12
Once the Levitt VIBE season closes with Troop and Jon B, the bandshell goes quiet again until next summer, the same way it sat quiet from 2017 until this July. Sunset Sessions and Dine LA both end even sooner, on August 28. Starting August 14, that leaves a two-week window where a Saturday at Memorial Park, a Friday at One Colorado, and a discounted dinner at a Michelin-recognized kitchen on Green Street or Union Street are all sitting a short walk apart inside the same historic district, all running on borrowed time before the calendar resets.
